Building Integrity is collectively owned and operated by five members with diverse backgrounds in design, natural building, construction, wellness, and agriculture. Motivated to create efficient and healthy structures that can be implemented at-scale to address the climate and housing crisis, we founded our LLC in 2024 and began participating in New Frameworks' Seed Network.
Tommy has sought to involve himself as much as possible with building with natural materials ever since his first semester of college in 2013. He graduated with a BS in Agricultural Sciences from Truman State University in 2017. His passion is uplifting natural building techniques to the cutting edge of energy efficient construction and publicizing his findings to empower people to make a difference. Tommy has owned and operated his handyman business, Note To Handyman, LLC for several years as well as maintains a steady amount of energy into his YouTube channel.
Adrienne Stolwyk is a licensed architect and owner of Monarch Architecture, LLC, which focuses primarily on custom residential and high-performance design. In 2022 she and her husband, Adam Saunders, completed the construction of a straw-cell Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU). The building is the first straw bale residence in Columbia and net positive electric.
Having worked on straw bale construction projects in Missouri, New Mexico, and Utah, not to mention visiting dozens more over the last 18 years, Adrienne understands the limitations of site-built straw bale methods and was motivated to find a better way.
She is passionate about the potential for panelized straw bale construction to reach exponentially more people!
With foundational practices rooted in meditation and wellness, Virgil helped open Clarity Float Spa in 2016. He dedicated the following five years to helping grow and maintain a restorative sanctuary for the Columbia area. Along the way he discovered a love for working with his hands, and began taking side jobs doing residential painting and remodeling. In 2021 he started his own remodeling business, Benevolence Property Improvement, and shifted his focus to repairing and improving homes with the same level of attention and care that he brought to the float spa. Virgil is enthused to now be a cofounder of Building Integrity, a nexus of his callings to craftsmanship and healthy alternatives to conventional models.
Adam Saunders is a co-founder of the Columbia Center for Urban Agriculture, where he served as Development Director for over a decade and led the public-private capital campaign for the construction of Columbia's award-winning Farmers Market / Agriculture Park. Adam has also farmed part-time since 2013, which lead to the creation of "Adam's Apples," a custom orchard installation and management service.
He honed his skills in construction and remodeling through the renovation of a 1903 Victorian home in downtown Columbia, MO and construction of a straw-cell ADU with his wife, Adrienne Stolwyk. Adam holds a BA in Statistics, and BS & MS in Forestry from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Lawrence Lile is a licensed Professional Engineer in Missouri with over 40 years experience with energy efficient buildings, solar engineering, mechanical engineering, general construction and structural engineering. Mr. Lile owns a home utilizing passive
and active solar energy systems, producing more energy than it consumes. He has been involved in numerous projects involving high efficiency and sustainable construction practices.
Previously chair of the Columbia/Boone County Environment and Energy Commission, Mr. Lile has advanced energy efficiency and conservation policies for City and County government. He believes that panelized straw bale construction can bring this previously labor-intensive construction technique into the 21st century with more efficient practices, and
make it more accessible to the average consumer.
Nick is an experienced carpenter with a focus on natural building techniques and materials. In 2022 he built his own timber-framed straw bale home near Fayette, MO. The house was built without any concrete! Instead, a rubble trench footing and mortared-stone stemwall was used for the foundation. A founding member of Building Integrity, he now resides in Iowa and provides technical consultation remotely on projects.
Stay tuned for hiring opportunities!
Building Integrity aims to cultivate an inclusive, team-centered work environment. We will be looking for people from all walks of life that want to learn how to build with their hands using natural materials and be a part of dynamic, supportive group.
