Who we are

We started Building Integrity to prove that natural building can scale. Our prefabricated structural panels use wheat straw from Missouri farms to build wall systems for carbon-storing, exceptionally efficient, and visually striking homes. Every home we build is another case study for doing this better — supporting local farmers, sequestering carbon in the walls, and cutting energy bills for the life of the house. We build our relationships the same way we build our walls: on mutual respect, and made to last.

Our operations support local farmers and other small businesses, sequester carbon in the built environment, and provide reduced energy costs for the lifetime of every structure.  We strive to build all of our relationships on foundations of mutual respect and cooperation, and leave behind a legacy of resilient, highly efficient, beautiful homes achieved with better building practices.

  • "Worth every penny, and a lot more." - Homeowner, Columbia, MO

  • "Working with Building Integrity has been an absolute delight!" - Homeowner, Columbia, MO

  • "This was the first home we built with straw bale insulation and it was so interesting to learn about a more eco-friendly way of building!" - Homeowner, First Panelized Straw House in Boone County, Missouri

  • "I could not believe how effective the house is at maintaining temperature, even with nothing on the interior or exterior of the walls. Today is 95 degrees and incredibly windy here. It is much more comfortable already than our present home. " - Homeowner, Nebraska

  • "We could not be happier with how it has turned out. I never would have achieved this kind of home without you! Especially at this moment when we are really starting to see the global warming ramifications here at home, I have this feeling of comfort and quiet and am so grateful for what you made possible for us." - Homeowner, Columbia, MO

What We Offer

We don’t just make panels! We can also help you start or finish a design, install panels, or consult with your contractor so they can install them.

Building Integrity supply of straw bales for sustainable prefabricated panel insulation

Why Straw?

It’s very insulative. It’s non-toxic. Our details make it very energy efficient. It’s carbon sequestering.

Straw (the dry stalk of the wheat plant) is collected via square baler from area farms.  These are pressed into all wood frames to create super-insulated panels that can be easily delivered and erected on site.  Panels are custom made based on the home’s design and receive rigorous inspection throughout the design and build process. Installed in conjunction with appropriate high-performance detailing, the panels provide an excellent level of insulation while avoiding the human health concerns that many modern building materials pose.

Various finishing options are available for the exterior and interior. Straw insulation is a perfect substrate for natural earthen or lime plaster finishes, and a base coat can be factory-applied before shipping. However, panels can also be finished with more conventional materials, like siding and gypsum board, by using a ventilated rainscreen on the exterior and furring chase on the interior.

The Seed Collaborative

Through our work with the Seed Collaborative, we’re helping grow a cooperative, decentralized network of regional straw panel producers focused on sustainable construction and low-carbon building materials. Together, we’re advancing a more resilient, regenerative, and climate-conscious alternative to conventional building systems.
